@Smokehead 3 whiskies that I think are quite good for summer are The Macallan 12 yr old Fine Oak, The Glenmorangie Astar, The Glenmorangie Nectar D'or. If you still need some smoke, but fruity I'd suggest a japanese whisky called the Hakushu 12 yr old. Fruity and floral with a hint of smoke.

First coming to my mind are Glenkinchie 12yo and Mackmyra First Edition.

There are a few other posts and probably discussions on connosr on summer/warm weather whiskies. Personally I enjoy my Holy Trinity Islays just as much in the heat. I guess that sometimes I just like to ramp up the intensity.
In more conventional terms, the warm weather recommendations I would make are Compass Box Asyla, Macallan 10 Fine Oak, Aberlour 10, almost any Glengoyne, Auchentoshan 12, and any light bourbon, like Evan Williams Black Label or Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star or 10 yo. Van Winkle 10 yo 90 proof, 12 yo, and 20 yo bourbons would work well too.

If you simply can't do without a little smoke give these a try:
BenRiach Birnie Moss
Arran Machrie Moor First Edition (Second Edition will do if you can't find the First)

@smokehead, if you like your peated whisky why not stick to it and change the temperature-chilled Laphroaig Quarter Cask is very refreshing and sensational when warming up in the mouth and slowly releasing it's flavours.

One favorite is Ardbeg Ten on the rocks...specially if you have Ardbeg Tumblerglas XXL...

...and most Balvenies make good summer drams. I especially like the Balvenie 10 yo Founder's Reserve for summer, or the 14 yo Caribbean Cask. Dalwhinnie 15 has legions of both fans and bashers. It is definitely also 'summer-weight', though. Glenmorangie Original...the list goes on and on....

Anything in the "Light" & "Delicate" quadrant of the whisky "flavour map" (Google will find it for you, if you're not familiar with it) would suit!

@Victor: +1 Glenmorangie Original 10yo. Great choice. If you would like the Whishy very slightly chilled, put a Glencairn glass in the freezer for 30min. or so and add the Whisky to the cold glass: The large glass base on the Glencairn will keep your drink pleasantly cool, without interfering with the contents.
Slainte!

The Amrut Intermediate Sherry that I've just opened would be an excellent summer whisky I think. Pity I live in Australia and it's coming into winter. Not to hijack your question but what do you guys here think is a good winter whisky?

@Jason0142: Aberlour a'bunadh, any Batch # will do just nicely - There are many others but a'bunadh sits right at the top of any auspicious group of fine full strength, full flavoured, robust 'winter warmers'; it simply screams, "Bring on the cold".
Cheers!

@A'bunadhman Totally agreed. Would also add to that a proper Islay like Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Caol Ila. And not to forget Octomore for something different but very warming!

As much as I love my Islays, it is sometimes overwhelming to drink them in the summer heat and humidity of New Orleans. During the summer, I generally turn to Balvenie Doublewood, Glenmorangie 10, and Macallan 12. I'm the same with beers; love the stouts from Guinness and Sierra Nevada, but turn more to ice cold light beers during the dog days and for seafood boils.

Lowlanders work really well in summer, then again so do Islays. Auchentoshan Valinch, any Rosebank and most Bladnochs are good when its hot. Laphroaig Cask Strength is great with a BBQ.

Summer is here!...very soon!!! i have a good selection of peated or heavily flavored whisky, none of them seem like a fitting dram for when the sun is out and a good sit down in the garden.
I was fully intending to get some light and floral drams yesterday when headed into the whisky shop, ended up coming out of the shop with 2 peated whiskies..... again....
I need some good guidance!! what would you recommend as a Summer dram?
