Suntory ‘Special Reserve’ 10-year old is a blend produced by Suntory, a major Japanese brewing and distilling company group. It is based on malt whisky produced at Hakushu distillery and is aged in white oak barrels.

The nose is intense and fruity. I got flavours of vanilla and lemon biscuit, followed by hints of fudge. Later on a nice maltiness develops. This is a lovely and enticing nose, for sure.

The palate is light and smooth. All flavours are rather subdued and are on the malty and nutty side. Vanilla and lemon notes are back, this time accompanied by ginger and mild wood spiciness.

The finish is of medium length and dry, with all flavours being rather mellow.

Both palate and finish do not live up to the expectations raised by the nose that I found rather lovely. I have enjoyed better blends from Suntory.
