This Teaninich was distilled in 1991 and put to sleep on a refill sherry butt. Gordon & Macphail cut it to 46% and released it under their well-known Connoisseurs Choice label.
The nose starts grassy, sweet and sour with vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, some peach, mandarin and a hint of banana. Quite a bit more complexity than in his younger brother from Daily Dram. And of course, another type of cask. It has a dusty side, making it older than its 14 years. Soft oak to finish things off.
It is pretty oily, almost buttery, on the palate. Very soft, though. The woodspices (cloves, nutmeg) are present, but gladly move over for all the fruit. Lightly drying oak towards the end.
In the medium long finish, the fruit and spices trade places.
Attractive, complex and spicy Teanininch. Glad this cask did not end up in one of the Diageo blends.
