Knowing that Teeling only came on steam in 2015, this Revival must be from older Cooley stocks. A 12 years old Irish whiskey that matured on former cognac and brandy casks? Sound promising.

Well, now, that is a completely different nose than their NAS single malt. This Revival is very fruity on pears, banana, apricots, quince and gooseberries. With a hint of Sirop the Liège and some seminola, oat meal and raisin cake.

Nicely creamy body, making it caress the tongue. The fruitiness returns – emphasis on apples and pears this time – and also offers some cake. A big dollop of honey enters the fray, while the oak delivers spices like white pepper, nutmeg and caramelized ginger. Round and rich.

The finish is very long. The spices slowly fade to allow the sweet fruit to shine one last time.

Lovely whiskey for being only 12 years old. But a price tag of 100 to 120 EUR is over the top for a malt of this age, I feel.
