The Dutch importer Bresser & Timmer selected a single cask from Teeling in September 2019. Calvados! That’s something you don’t see every day. I remember a Bruichladdich from a few years ago and more recently the Mackmyra Äppelblom. I wonder how the Teeling spirits coped with it.
Ooh, nice nose! First and foremost the typical Teeling traits appear – white fruit, cherries, grass – but it immediately turns very candy-like on white chocolate, rice krispies, candied oranges and – which was to be expected with this type of cask – a truckload of stewed apples, sprinkled with a good dose of cinnamon. I also get a hint of almond shavings, ginger and some bubblegum. It works. This nose is fresh like spring and very good.
The arrival is pretty sturdy, I have to say. But it does not need water. Again candy-like sweet with the emphasis on apples and pears, but also some banana and cherry candy. Lots of caramel. A touch of ginger, a touch of pepper, a touch of cinnamon – a lovely spiciness. This is very good!
The finish is top notch as well! Lingers quite long, is feisty on stewed apples and pears. At the death it becomes a tad dry.
Wow! Very good and absolutely affordable with a price tag of around 90 EUR. I would pay that gladly for this release. Thanks, Benny!
