The Nectar, one of Belgium's major importers, recently celebrated its 15th anniversary. In that context, quite a few casks were bottled to celebrate that. This is one of them, a 16-year-old Teeling on a rum barrel. That can't be a bad thing.

Yes, we're in the tropics. Peach, orange, young pineapple, coconut and nectarines whose juice drips off your chin when you bite into them. Another bit of menthol for a fresh lift and some soft notes of white chocolate. Delicious!

The onset is soft yet nice and spicy on black pepper, licorice and candied ginger. And then an explosion of overripe fruit with pineapple and orange in the lead, followed by nectarines and star fruit. The wood provides a light drying effect. This is enjoyment.

The finish is medium-long, fruity, spicy, warm and gently drying.

This makes me happy. Perfect balance between the spirit of Teeling on the one hand and the oak cask in which the rum was dozing off on the other. Thanks, Benny. Recommended!
