The Flemish whisky shops Prima Vinum and Dram 242 worked together to get this single cask from Teeling – a rum cask no less – bottled. It’s becoming almost embarrassing to admit, but again it was my buddy Benny who provided me with the sample. He is without a doubt the biggest Irish whiskey fan in general and Teeling afficionado in particular that I know. Thank you, sir!

Wonderfully fruity nose that immediately transports you to the tropics. Coconut, peach, oranges, young pineapple, brown sugar and a wonderful touch of oak. Toasted oak, as they say. Something like menthol in the background that gives it a fresh lift. A hint of white chocolate and it’s picture perfect. I am a fan already!

The arrival is very soft. I get the wood first now, that immediately offers a soft spiciness of black pepper and candied ginger. And then the fruit arrives... coconut, peach, oranges... perfect continuation of the nose and a taste that makes me happy.

The finish could have been a little longer in my book. But it is very tasty: fruity, spicy and warm.

I have no idea which type of rum cask Teeling used for this, but the influence it had on the spirit is nigh on perfect. Not dominant, but just enough to offer the typical Teeling DNA some extra sweetness. It can still be found at Prima Vinum for 122 EUR. Recommended.
