One of the highlights of a visit to a distillery is undoubtedly being able to fill your own bottle or the purchase of a Distillery Exclusive. Needless to say, my good friend Benny J – Mr Teeling Belgium, remember? – was able to obtain a bottle of this cask. It is a Distillery Exclusive that was bottled in 2022 and in the bottle is a Teeling of no less than 17 years old, which first matured in bourbon barrels and then got a finish on barrels in which cognac matured before! I am very curious about this now.

Succulent nose on popcorn, malt sugars, baked apples and vanilla. Something of white chocolate and marzipan and a hint of dessert wine. Give it about five minutes to breathe and you will be blown away. Delicious!

Nice and oily in the mouth and immediately pleasantly sweet. Dessert wine is the first thing that comes to mind, but if the whiskey has been allowed to settle on the tongue for a while, it reveals much more. Think apples, almonds, walnuts, orange peels, chestnuts, wood shavings, mandarins, peaches and even apricots. Even gets a little tropical. What fun. And the woodspices provide a spicy edge too. Excellent balance between spirit and wood.

Long, fruity and almost spicy finish. Slowly but surely the mouth becomes completely dry.

Impressive, complex Teeling. Thx, Benny!
