For St. Patrick's Day – the national holiday in Ireland – Teeling launched a distillery exclusive last year that finished on Irish oak after a regular maturation in bourbon casks. This whiskey is a blend of their single malt and single grain.

Soft notes of vanilla and oak. Freshly sawn planks, so to speak. Another thing that reminds me of rye bread, but unfortunately little more. This nose is rather quiet as far as I'm concerned. What a pity.

Also on the palate this whiskey is rather quiet, though. In addition to a lot of wood, I only get some orange peels and vanilla. Ah, wait... from the second sip it begins to unfold. Whew! Now some caramel and even some cocoa appear. The wood herbs slowly but surely make your mouth completely warm.

The finish is slightly bitter – but in a pleasant way – and gently drying. Not exactly long, but not really short either.

This Teeling clearly needs some time. Nothing wrong with that, of course. Still available in the distillery's online shop. That is actually telling, I think. Thanks, Benny.
