The third and for the time being last edition in the so-called Sommelier Selection is a Teeling that got a finish on Amarone barrels. I'm curious about that now. Amarone is an Italian wine that takes its name from the word 'amaro', which means bitter. As always, this Teeling sample was delivered to me by Benny J, one of the biggest fans – if not the biggest – of Teeling in our small country. Thank you for that!

A sweet, creamy scent full of crème à beurre and hazelnuts fills my nose. Some cocoa powder, coffee beans and blue plums appear, as well as some cuberdons and candy sugar. Delicious.

The body is a bit on the light side, but in terms of taste it is good. Plums, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries with a hint of white chocolate and cuberdons (again). A soft spiciness in the form of black pepper and licorice presents itself. A bitterness as soft as that of a grape seed brings it nicely into balance. The alcohol is well integrated.

The finish may be a bit on the short side, it is already satisfyingly sweet and spicy.

If you consider that you can buy this for about 50 EUR, then you know that you have got bang for your buck. Thanks, Benny.
