I know that you know, but I gladly repeat myself here. I have a soft spot for new make. So when I got the chance to try this Spirit of Dublin (thanks, Marcel), I took it with both hands. After all, this is the new make of the new Teeling Distillery, which still has no whiskey of its own as it is still sleeping in the warehouses. This one is made of 50% malted and 50% unmalted barley.

Have you ever tasted a spirit that was distilled from hazelnuts? I have. And this is what it reminds me of, but in a dirty version… I also get some fresh fig. Something smoky too, although I cannot imagine where that comes from. Unfortunately, it also has a little chemical side to it, that is less to my liking. But good fun, nonetheless.

It is surprisingly creamy on the palate, almost syrupy. Raisins, figs and some chili peppers and pear drops mixed together. Weird, but fun, like I said. A bit of cough syrup, honey and burnt nuts. Sounds a bit off, but is quite alright.

The finish is very long, spicy and bursts with earthy notes.

Well, that was a fun, but somewhat weird new make, to be sure. But forking over 28 EUR for a 50cl bottle seems a bit too much. Thanks Marcel.
