Teeling has released a series of whiskies under the banner Small Batch Collaboration. It's quite a challenge to follow them all, I must confess. But nevertheless I was able to catch a few and I would like to put them head to head. I'll start with this 200 Fathoms, finished on a beer cask that previously held Imperial Stout, from the Galway Bay Brewery.

The nose starts closed, but with some hand warmth and patience I get vanilla, coffee and a hint of banana. Something vegetal, something herbal, but I cannot quite pinpoint it. I can say, however, that I was not overly impressed with this nose.

It becomes a lot more interesting on the palate, I must say. Vanilla, coffee and chocolate with banana filling and notes of stout. Think coffee and caramel. Yes, on the palate this is rather good.

The medium long finish shows the beer notes to the fullest. Pleasant!

Do you have to be a beer lover to enjoy this dram? I do not think so. I found this very tasty. Around 45 EUR. Did you know, by the way, that Galway Bay brewery afterwards used these casks from Teeling to mature their Imperial Stout again?
