I should have been tipped off by the stupid name. "Triple cask" I can understand, but triple smooth? Please.

Anyway, I like to use St. Patrick's Day as an excuse to try some new Irish whiskey. This is a blend comprising grain, malt, and pure pot still whiskies aged in ex-bourbon, sherry, and marsala casks if memory serves. On the nose and palate, this is about as simple and straightforward as Irish whiskey gets. Hints of vanilla and oak, some malty biscuit aromas, and a flavour which is overbalanced by bitterness. So many better options at this price. Tullamore Dew springs to mind. For another three dollars, Black Bush destroys this stuff. Throw down an extra tenner or so and you've got Bushmills 10 year old or The Sexton single malt.

Oh, well. Curiosity sated.
