ime for another quick tasting note for a D.Laing expression, this time the NAS cask strength version of their Lowlands blended malt – The Epicurean. The original Epicurean was a nice mixing blended malt if you ask me, Not bad , but also not quite as interesting as others, and being a lowland whisky, I was not expecting much more. This one’s a blended Lowland malt on steroids, with an impressive % abv of 58.6 – as such it promises to have more of a presence, as they say.The packaging is quite lovely with the Duke of Wellington statue’s infamous traffic cone hat reference and such…
Nose : creamy barley, and zingy lemon rind, some orchard fruit in the backdrop. Quite fresh with a nice malty touch. Not the most complex of noses… Palate: Quite thick with vanilla, and cream of the barley as they say… quite malty, nutty and sweet with a bitter touch, and a hint of ginger. Finish: Milk chocolate, cocoa, vanilla.
