I cannot find anything on this single grain online, so have to make do with what I can read from the label. It was distilled in 1969 and bottled at the age of 33 years for the members of the Belgian whisky society in Ghent, run by Bob Minnekeer, named The Glengarry. I have absolutely no idea what distillery this is from. Anyone? Oh, well, let us get to work.
The nose reminds me of the better bourbon. Vanilla, corn, coconuts, maple syrup, buttered toast, caramel, brown sugar on a baked banana and toasted oak. But all of this is a fantastically creamy form, caressing the taste buds and putting the mind at ease. Very nice, indeed.
On the palate it is equally creamy, almost syrupy, but extremely soft. Again very sweet with all the elements of the nose returning. The baked banana and maple syrup jump out at you. Add some violets (the purple candy). Cloves and eucalyptus take care of the spice end of things.
The finish is long and sweet, but it is the spices that take top honours now.
I would have called this a bourbon if tasted blind. But a very soft and wonderfully creamy high end bourbon. Top notch, if you ask me. So who can help me find out where this baby came from?
