Whenever I go to Total Wine, the sales reps are always pushing for... No,no, let me rephrase that "recommending" The Grangestone. In a moment of desperation, the sales rep even went to the back of the store and gave me a little sample to try. It was pretty good.A bit tight for my taste, but good. So i'll figure i'll give it a shot. I'll go home and decant the sucker, and see what happens...

A year ago this was $25.99. Now its $31.99. I must keep in mind that I'm drinking a 12 year old SM for $31.99. Nice legs, sherry, lots of berries, fruity, very nutty, oak, spice, sweet, nutmeg, hint of vanilla, fairly smooth. It finishes medium with the oak again and spices. Lacks elegance.

For the price, this is a very good sherried whisky option. Better than most at this price range. Great to take to a shindig and impress a few without hurting your wallet-- falls short of my "close-circle of friends" whisky list.

I work at a Total Wine, and I think it's desperately mediocre, but I'm glad you liked it. If you're spending $30 on a whisky there typically, do a aged blend to get better value, or jump up to Glenmorangie original, Aberfeldy, or a Glen Grant or Moray. Too many reps, who are wine trained, see the yellow ticket and decide to put a shoulder behind it. Half the time, people go 'oh, it's okay.' I'm going to be recommending a $25ish blend of quality, and expecting you to come back next time to see if I've got any other hidden gems for you.
