Take a look at: a limited edition bottling of the Vintage Malt Whisky Company, which we also know from The Cooper's Choice. This blended malt was launched on the market in 2017 and hear through the grapevine that a lot of Coal Ila went into it, while the rest of the composition comes from the Highlands. I'm curious. Let me start by saying that the bottle only costs 35 EUR. It's a matter of steering expectations in the right direction.
On the nose, the peat is immediately present in the form of sweet smoke, but it certainly does not dominate. I mainly get sweet notes like coconut, baked apples, some hay and farmer's butter.
On the palate it is mainly the peat and the smoke that run the show. The fruity, sweetness of the blended malt cannot compete. I also get some burnt wood and black pepper. Honey too. Nice and spicy, though. Licorice appears, while the smoke gets bigger and bigger.
A soft finish with a salty edge makes my day.
Pleasantly soft and smoky malt. Knowing that you can buy this bottle for less than 40 EUR, it is certainly value for money. Thx, Manny.
