Michael Walsh is the youngest Master Distiller in Ireland. He works hard every day to distill whiskey at Boann, but for now they have to make do with whiskey bought elsewhere until their own spirit has matured for long enough. Today I will try the Whistler that was finished on calvados casks. I am curious.

The calvados is immediately present on the nose in the guise of young apples . Next to that I get some sweet malt and honey, as well as a slice of lime and some margarine. Fresh and lively.

Nicely oily on the palate, soft on the spices and quite summary. Again lots of apples and lime, but I also taste quite a bit of grain whiskey. In all honesty I thought this was a malt, but I think now that this might in fact be a blend.

The medium long finish leaves no doubt about the fact that there is indeed grain in the mix, because I get pencil shavings, wood and corn next to the omnipresent apples.

With a price tag of less than 40 EUR this is still a pleasant whiskey.
