I spent the weekend buckled down with some JW Green, Eagle Rare bourbon, and a bunch of cocktails for the wife. Thankfully, the suck-pumps in basement held and there was no lasting damage. Some of my co-workers in neighboring towns weren't so lucky.

Thanks guys. While the actual path of the storm was in doubt, in retrospect the Washington DC area was fortunate. I live about 10 miles (about 16 km) from Washington. In general, the impacts were less the farther west one went from the Atlantic Ocean. It basically rained for 21 hours straight but moderately, perhaps 3 to 4 inches (approximately 7 to 10 cm) total. At night around 2 am once the storm center approached from the south and was at the same latitude, the winds picked up significnatly with gusts near 50 mph (about 80 kmph) and we lost power for about 10 hours at around 2 am. I had a hard time sleeping becuase the wind was blowing so strong and I could tell that we lost power. A few of my neighbors lost trees.
I know the impacts were much worse in other locations closer to the Atlantic Ocean. I was too anxious to enjoy any whisky unfortunately.

Thanks for thinking of us. What a week. First a 5.9 earthquake that rattled us here in Virginia, then the hurricane a few days later. Living about 60 miles from where the center of Irene tracked, we experienced sustained 35-45 mph winds with up to 70-80 mph gusts. A few downed trees and power out for almost 4 days. We got lucky. No damage to the house and the whisk(e)y collection is intact other than a little lighter in volume due to more time for sipping while pondering earthquakes and hurricanes. Now watching what Katia is going to do.

Evening folks, a thought goes out to any Connosr members on the East Coast of North America which has been hit by Hurricane Irene over the last few days.
I hope you and your families are safe and you haven't been affected too badly.
