Maltclan is a Belgian whisky club that organises a whiskyfestival around the new year. Obviously, a bottling is release then as well. This is one of those and an official one to boot. It’s a single cask of Tomatin that was put down in 2005 and bottled at cask strength. Judging by the color, this was a bourbon cask.
The nose confirms the bourbon cask. Farmer’s butter, banana, apples and pears and peach with a bit of lemon. Nicely creamy, too, but apart from that it’s just a tad outspoken.
On the palate too, this seems a creamy malt. Again white fruit, citrus, banana and peach – especially the latter expresses itself nicely making it a bigger fruit bomb than the nose announced. Quinine, white pepper, ginger. Lovely.
The finish is long and spicy, with some quinine at the death, making it nicely bitter.
Lovely Tomatin. Kudos to Maltclan. It’s not out of this world, but with a price tag of only 65 EUR certainly bang for your buck.
