CASK is a series from Gordon & Macphail in which they bottle single casks at cask strength. I know, this is logical. This is, however, quite a young Tomatin. It matured on first fill bourbon casks for only 8 years. The release is a mix of 4 casks that were put to sleep in 2007. The nose is fresh on sweet malt and all kinds of sugars, loads of vanilla and some baked apples. Very summery in my book. There is a mildly floral element like freshly cut grass and wild heathery flowers. It has a mildly oily body and is honeysweet from the first sip. A truckload of vanilla and caramel, offering little change for the fruit to manifest itself. It is soft on the spices with some white pepper, liquorice and ginger. But if I may be totally honest, quite one-dimensional. The finish is medium long on more of the same with somewhat drying tannins at the death. Flawless malt with the typical traits of first fill bourbon casks, but a little too one-dimensional to really entertain.
