In light of the success of the Cù Bocàn, Tomatin has also released a couple of special edition of this peated malt. This is one of those, bottled in 2016 at a slightly higher ABV of 50%. While the smoke is unmistakable, it remains clearly Tomatin, for it is quite fruity on the nose. Peach, mango, oranges, apricots… to name but a few. Loads of honey as well. Something that reminds me of candy sugar and nougat. Hazel nuts. Yes, this is quite pleasant. Lovely oily and again quite fruity. It dances on the palate, I must say. The peat is now more prominent and delivers a mild smoke development that I quite like. The finish is rather short on more of the same. Fairly straightforward whisky without any frills, but quite nice. Around 55 to 65 EUR, which is not cheap, but not overly expensive either. And it looks great. Thanks for the sample, Pat.
