Tullibardine – the Highland distillery that was only founded in 1949 – now gives its fans the possibility to try their new make spirit. A few months ago their Pure Pot Spirit was released in 50cl bottles at a whopping 69%. Where is my water? Another spirit to cross out on my bucket list. Ooh, new make can be so lovely… this nose offers touches of grain, bread dough, raw green beans, butter spread and freshly peeled patato skins. But…! What pleases me most is the fact that it already is pretty sweet and almost fruity. Think green banana and peach, but also lovely notes of Cavaillon melon. If I add water, it shows a more herbal side, but the sweetness is also turned up a notch and it becomes somewhat creamy. It goes without saying that the arrival is quite strudy. Almost scorching, but no surprise there. Again those hints of melon en peach, but also quite some grasses. This is wonderful! And spicy, too. All kinds of peppers and green herbs. A bit surprising to say the least, but in a good way. Adding water makes it more creamy and sweet, making it quite quaffable. The finish is pretty spicy and sweet, even diluted. Lovely new make that, thanks to the sweet notes, would do very good in cocktails (oh, blasphemy!). Thanks, Marcel.
