Unheard of yet award winning Whisky

One of the things I love about Connosr is the wealth and breadth of Whisky knowledge and the willingness to share. I have recently had the pleasure to be put on my ass by something I knew nothing about previously.

Some of you may know I set up a small, rural Whisky club earlier this year. The main reasons were to aid my Whisky education and have some fun. It would never have happened without Connosr and its members, but I have dropped off the radar here recently with club stuff as a result.

I'm no expert, rather I consider myself an enthusiastic amateur. This week I tried a range of Whiskies from the worlds 7th biggest Whisky producer, Jim Murray rated their 2 flagship expressions at 96.5 and 94.0, their best selling bottling sells 60 million bottles per year, they won Gold and Silver at the World Whiskies Masters 2013, do you know who I am talking about?

No, well I am not surprised, I didn't either.

I am referring to Paul John Indian Single Malt.

How could I have missed this? Well it seems that they only started pushing Single Malts this year and are trying to break into the European and UK markets. As part of this initiative I was able to pull off a bit of a coup. I managed to arrange a tasting evening presented by Paul John Whisky at Stroud Whisky Club. My feet haven't touched the ground yet this week and I will be posting my reviews shortly here on Connosr.

For those interested I have posted some details on my website and have a full run down on my blog. stroudwhiskyclub.co.uk/paul-john-whisky.htm…

Suffice to say, it's been an interesting week so far. I am still new to blogging so any feedback would be appreciated.

I wouldn't say it's unheard of. I've heard quite a bit about it. It's just a little behind Amrut in terms of timing and is just getting it's international legs.

I would be very happy to try it if I could get my hands on it. I doubt the LCBO has plans to bring an affordable bottle here any time soon.

@nozinan Good point, on Connosr new products hit the radar right away and the two flagship single malts were launched back in May. I shouldn't have said "unheard of" but was just excited to share my news.

I've heard of and read about JP and at some point will be looking to get a bottle for the bunker. Amrut is more known but I suspect JP isn't far behind.
