Ah, again a so-called ‘bastard malt’ of which no one can (or will) tel lus what is in the bottle. It is bottled by the Vintage Malt Whisky Compnay, also known of the Cooper’s Choice, Finlaggan, Tantallan en Glenalmond (really, WTF?). The shape of the bottle reminds me of Bruichladdich, but that means nothing, of course. Those in the know say it is a vatting – sorry, blending – of Bowmore, Lagavulin and Laphroaig. Well, with only a handful of distilleries on Islay, I am sure someone is right.

The nose is very sweet with loads of citrus and spices, but also a bunch of banana and malt. The peat and brine also rear their heads after some hand warmth. Quiet moment before the storm?

The attack is slightly oily, sweet and salty. The Islay character is obvious now. Yes, this could in fact contain Laffie. Briny seawater, iodine, greasy coals, followed by sweet fruit. Full mouthfeel. Light spices.

The finish is spicy and smoky, as it should be, and medium in length.

All whiskies in this blended malt are at least 6 years old. Very friendly priced and a nice into for peatlovers.
