- Brand: Westland
- ABV: 46%
Three expressions of the new American craft distiller Westland are available in my country today: Westland American Oak, Westland Sherry Wood & Westland Peated. So, let me put them in a neat little row, starting with the American Oak that is, just like it’s brothers, bottled at 46%. This one matured on American oak casks that were charred to level 4.
Well, the nose is very promising. I get mostly coffee and chocolate, some vanilla and baked banana. Not much more, but that’s ok, for this is already quite pleasant.
It is wonderfully soft on the palate. Very sweet on vanilla and banana, but with a weird twist. I am thinking burnt almonds. Something candy-like kicks in: Haribo bears. And some mild spices that I cannot quite put my finger on. Interesting.
The finish is rather short on mocha and coffee.
Special and certainly worth your while, although 80 EUR for a bottle is quite expensive. But if you can try it at a festival, go for it. Lovely stuff.
