What are you favourite NAS bottles?

we all know the age old discussion about the increase of Non Age Statement whisky (excuse the pun). However, we also know that there are some amazing NAS bottles out there. The ever popular Aberlour A'Bunadh and Ardbeg Uigeadial spring to mind immediately.

So, excluding these what other fantasist NAS have you stumbled accords. I'm, looking for inspiration and no more than £100 so Glenmorangie Signet is out (boo).

What has floated your boat and tickled your fancy?

It's hard to post a reply to this question without listing all the "classic" NAS whiskies. I've never tried the Uigeadial (got a bottle waiting for me), and I've made it A'Bunadh-tly clear about my opinion of Aberlour's offering.

But in the last couple of years I have indeed discovered some wonderful examples of NAS whisky:

Caol Ila Cask Strength (58% batch) - mind-blowing peat Amrut Cask Strength (both 2007 edition and one of the batches) Amrut Peated Cask Strength (My highest scored reviewed whisky

And moving on from single malts.... Forty Creek Heart of Gold

This is NOT to be interpreted as an endorsement of the trend to market NAS bottles. All of these would taste just as good if the age were stated on the bottle, and they would be cheaper, because people who assume age is the only thing that matters would stay away from them.

Amrut states the paediatric (almost neonatal) age of its single casks and they sell, I suspect if they said their regular ones were 3-4 years people would keep on buying them. We know that they make good product and the climate helps things along.

Similarly, Peated whisky bombs are often at their best before the wood softens and removes a lot of the phenols. The popularity of Octomore proves we will buy a young malt.

And as for Forty Creek, would it hurt them to tell us how old the product is? And while they are at it, a cask strength release would blow us away...

@Nozinan I do know what you mean about the Indian single malts. Due to the climate and an angels share of around 12% they just don't need the same time in cak to mature.

I am happy for anyone to list a load of fav's if hey want to. I like lots of NAS and as with most things, if it's good, its good.

I've not tried forty creek, I hear lots of good things but might have to source a bottle at some point.

@tjb Last My I picked up from the duty free the Auchentoshan Heartwood. 43% vol. matured in bourbon casks and oloroso sherry casks. This was my first auchentoshan and I liked it pretty much.

I hope I do not come across as sour or anything along those lines, but there is already a discussion on this topic a few threads down the list: connosr.com/wall/discussion/…

Check it out if you want to read more answers to your question. :)

Personally, I'd pick Corryvreckan and Uigeadail as my favourites.
