@Luke12, whisky is all about socializing and getting to know new friends. It is good to see that you are interested in knowing about the rest of us.

For some reason the 'new' connosr.com, renovated 6+ months ago, tends to get new members who tell next to nothing about themselves in their profiles. People in the "old" Connosr usually gave more of themselves online, at least in which city/country they lived, and a few words about their interest in whisk(e)y. Personally, my interest in interacting with anyone who remains almost completely anonymous is very low. If you tell me nothing about yourself that tells me something about you which makes you undesirable to me. People are interesting, but invisible internet key-punchers are not.

I live in Maryland, in the Washington, D.C. suburbs. As for Austria, my father's parents were of Germanic stock who emigrated to America from near Graz in the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1905. The area is probably in Slovenia now. One of my two sisters has been married to a Viennese since 1968. I was (the very young) best man.

@Luke12 I am from Capelle aan den IJssel, the Netherlands. My favorite Austrians are Mozart, Wittgenstein and of cause Falko especially when he performed Der Kommissar. I like all kind of whiskeys . I like big big flavors. Lately, I am enjoying Amrut. It is a whisky from the subcontinent India. I do love Amrut Peated Cask Strength and Amrut Portonova. You could try Amrut Fusion, it is the entry level whisky. Well I am also fond of crafty Belgian beers. Have you ever heard of Cantillon beers from Bruxelles ?

@Luke12 Hey there, and welcome to Connosr.

I'm in Canada. For many years I lived in Toronto, but a bit more than a year ago I moved to Cobourg, a small town an hour's drive east of the big city. While I very much enjoyed living in Toronto, I have to say I love it here. Even if some whiskies are a little harder to come by. Luckily the LCBO, our provincially run liquor store, now has online ordering for some offerings.

As for my whisky interests, they lie primarily in North American whisky (Bourbon, Canadian, American ryes...) but I have no inherent bias against whiskies from elsewhere. If it's tasty, it's tasty, I don't care where it's from. Are there any interesting Austrian whiskies?

Oh, and apparently we're listing our favourite Austrians... relaxed I guess I'm going to have to go with Mr. Governator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger. I also quite like Christoph Waltz.

Give me peat or give me death.

I never before considered who my favorite Austrian would be, so let's go with @Luke12 .

@Luke12 When I read this I thought you said you were from Australia. They are a bit closer to me than Austria - I'm from New Zealand. Any other Kiwi's about? I did a quick intro on the new members thread - but compared to most on here I'm a beginner and still finding my way in the world of single malts. Due to young family etc. I'm pretty much restricted to the entry level side of things but there's plenty there to keep me interested. Other than whisky, I love deer stalking. What other interests/hobbies do you have?

Welcome, Luke.

I am from Canada. I live in Elmira, a small but growing town north of Kitchener-Waterloo. Of note in our part of south western Ontario is the Old Order Mennonite and Amish farming communities. We still have horse and buggy traffic, with horse stalls at the local grocery stores, and beside the downtown car park.

I started my whisky journey back in 2005, after attending a Companions of the Quaich (whisky & dinner club) with a friend. I am partial to single malt whisky (scotch), enjoying all types, but preferring the Island and Islay expressions. Peat or no peat - depends on the season, the weather and my mood on any particular day. I do like my Canadian whisky, but not the Canadian Club of Crown Royal that get exported to foreign markets. Instead I gravitate to the newer small distillery products - Forty Creek, Still Waters (Stalk & Barrel), 66 Gilead, Dillon's. There are also some new distilleries located in British Columbia and the Yukon, but due to the "barriers to trade" between provinces and the government controlled LCBO being the only retail option, I have not yet been able to source some of these. I also have a number world whiskies in my collection - New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan, India, Sweden, France, South Africa - and a couple American bourbons and American whiskies. I find it interesting to compare whisky from different countries, and research the history of distilling in each country.

Hope you find lots of good stuff here on Connosr!

You might as well ask who my favourite child is. That is, if I had children. As it is, my whisky bottles are my children. sweat

Currently the highest rated bottle in my cabinet is Lot No. 40 and while I'm not sure I'd call it my favourite (it's so hard to pick just one!) it's definitely up there. Can't wait for the cask strength version to come out later this year.

Now, I've gotta ask... why did you link that site? Is it yours? Are you trying to advertise it to us?

@Luke12 Favorite Whiskey, the answer to that question could change every day, I am not even sure if my preference is Bourbon, Rye or SM Scotch. I live in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada via Nova Scotia. Welcome

As you might guess by my username I'm from Sweden. The middle part of my oblong country. It's fairly close to Scotland so the Scottish whiskies are plentiful. It's harder to source American and Canadian stuff. Personally as of now I'd say my favorite whisky is either a really good batch of Uigeadail or Amrut peated CS.

Hi @Luke12 ,

I'm based in the Midlands of the UK but as you can see, Connosr is real worldwide community. My best answer for what my favourite whisky is always seems to be something like whatever I am drinking now or whatever I have open in my cabinet, so a lot! It's often easier to say about the ones I hate!

Unlike all the cowards above who afraid to name one whisky as their favourite ( smirk ), I will boldly lay claim to Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength as my #1 world-beater.

Home is located in Traverse City, Michigan area (northeastern corner of Lower Peninsula). Presently have far more unopened bottles of whisky saved than I will ever drink in my lifetime. Foolishly hopeful that 2nd-hand sales and shipping restrictions lift/relax over next couple of decades. My whisky journey started shortly after a vacation trip to Ireland in 1993. I tend towards sweeter whisky profiles, but enjoy most as there is a time and place for each. My interests are not just limited to irish whiskies, as my outdated profile might lead one to believe. Surprisingly, bourbons not high on that list. As far as an Austria connection, my father’s side of the family immigrated from Austria (Dornfeld area, southeast of Graz, about 1 mile north of Slovenia border) in mid-1800’s. Dornfeld is still a small (pop. 8400 or so) farming community I believe.

@Luke12 Hello and welcome, I live near Preston, Lancashire, UK and work in Blackpool. Only been drinking single malts for a couple of years but progressing quickly through the spectrum. Current favourite whisky is HP18 lighter profile for spring, winter warmer Talisker 10 and summer whiskey would be Bookers or Bakers.

If I was only allowed one bottling for a whole year A'bunadh would win, so many choices and such little time :)

@Luke12 Hi Luke12, I am from Denver, Colorado USA. However, my first introduction to SMW, occured while I was living in Beijing. My interest grew when I found a few friends, and colleagues, who had equally enthusiasm in whisk(e)y appreciation. I also had a three opportunities to travel to Tokyo, and enjoy a few of the many whisk(e)y bars there. I even had the opportunity to visit the Hakushu distillery. Now that I am back in Denver it is taking me a little time to find a few friends to share a wee dram with.
