Specifically, no. In general, the Manhattan local liquor stores are much more interesting than the LCBO, both in product and in price.

Made an online purchase from Astor Wines a few years ago, and their website seems like they might have alot to offer...

@FMichael Scotch catalogue looks interesting - thanks much.
Nozinan - with the currency valuation, prices are probably the same, no?

Can't say. Last time I was there the dollar was doing much better. I have purchased stuff in the U.S. Before. Mostly stuff I couldn't get here easily. old granddad114 (still waiting for that to be brought over), Booker's (was out of stock here, and also 25 dollars less), JW swing. Corryvreckin for $100 less than it was listed at year.
I would forget about the price unless you see a real bargain. I would concentrate on stuff you just can't find here. If I were there I would avoid the A'Bunadh that was 30 dollars less (unless it was a batch 28) and stick with a bourbon or rye that I can't get here.

@JayRain NY State has a tax structure for spirits that practically mirrors Ontario, The prices are outrageously high to begin with. Add the currency disparity and you might in fact pay more fore some items. I would focus on otherwise unobtainable items.
Having said that, I've rec'd bottles purchased at Beekman's, 500 Lexington. There are many nice shops in NYC:however, I would guess you might have a limited mount of time and not be able to visit many. I'd call ahead and confirm stock status to avoid disappointment. I missed out on a Boss Hog by a couple of days - I could have ordered and had it delivered to my hotel.
Earlier this year there was an inquiry of a similar nature. connosr.com/wall/discussion/…

@JayRain My favorite store is also Beekman's. But if you want to find some unexpected stuff (rare stuff), I suggest you look in wine oriented store. Because those store are not pushing whisky, they have sometime some bottle that are really hard to find. That's how I was able to get an Old Potrero 18th Century Style. Of course that is if you have time to really look at all those stores, on the street or on the Net.

@paddockjudge - thanks much for the prior thread.
Robert99 - there for a week so might have ample time to hit a few of the wine stores.
Only bringing back three bottles so deciding what to get will probably be the hard part.

Well, if you buy early in your trip and you max out on those 3 bottles, what happens if you find a other bottle you really need to take home?
better bring a couple of Glencairns with you, just in case....

@Nozinan Is it possible to ship some bottles back home - under a 'disguise' of course.
I'm thinking a hand-written note on the box in Sharpie black bold lettering - 'Handle with care - entire Golden Girls series on VHS'.

@FMichael It IS possible, but VHS tapes don't "slosh".
I'm not a big one for breaking the law. Yes I do "import" from other jurisdictions, but I do so in a legal manner, which is why it takes my bottles a long time to get over, up to 1.14 litres at a time...

Not in Times Square, but Astor Wines, Park Avenue Liquors are Meccas of Malt (sorry, Ralfy). Great resources also are the Flatiron (esp. For American whiskey), the already mentioned Beekman's (esp. For their knowledge) and I would also mention Crush Wines for sherry.

going to Dumbo and Times Square area - any recommendations for a liquor shop to check out?
Thanks in advance...jr
