Which SMSW would 007 drink?

Whilst reading the latest James Bond novel, and inspired by the shameless product placement throughout (basil hayden's bourbon, bombay saphire gin, Audi, Rolex, Emirates airlines etc etc), I wondered to myself "which Scotch whisky would be Bond's choice?". My money's on The Dalmore 15. For reasons i really can't explain. Apologies for the ridiculous discussion....

I definitely think James Bond is a Macallan 18 type of guy. A distinguishing drink, luxurious, but not too much, and particular enough to be considered a connaisseurs' choice. He's surely no peat fan.

No need to apologize, I actually think it's pretty fun :D.

@drinix, good call, @drinix. Bond is not a high peat guy. And he has to sound good saying the name of the distillery. Macallan is a great choice. I can also see him as a Glenfiddich 18 kind of guy. He wants his whisky well-proven, but can't have it associated with too much age.

Well it depends on which Bond we are talking about here? Sean Connery probably the most memorable 007 and Scottsman, I reckon would choose a Talisker 18 yo...

I hate to burst your bubbles, guys, but Bond's drink is a martini - shaken, not stirred. Anyway, if he were to drink Scotch, it certainly wouldn't be a Toshan as he'll probably think it's a ladies' drink and he'd have a hard time pronouncing it correctly and in a cool fashion :-)

Talisker has been featured in several films, with both the new M and Brosnan's Bond drinking that brand. Hate to further burst bubbles, but in the Fleming books, Bond was more of a Scotch drinker, and only ordered a Martini once! From the bottle featured on film, it's hard to tell which Talisker thay are drinking, but given Bond's expensive tastes, I'd go with a bottle of Talisker 18 year old.

Wow, this is truly 'anoraking', isn't it? But what fun. So... in a galaxy far, far away, what would be Darth Vader's fav tipple, eh? Loch Dhu?

@markjedi1 Darth Vader was very very happy when Bruichladdich released the Octomore! The word is, he was particulary fascinated by the bottle's design and its dark force.

@markjedi1 Curiously there is only a passing mention of Martini- they musn't have bid enough for the endorsement! And also it may surprise you to learn that Auchentoshan does indeed get a mention, as the favored dram of one of the "villains" though. I'm not sure what that says....Darth Vader would definitely be a Talisker man i reckon.....

excellent call... Darth Vader, I reckon he'd grab a bottle of Big Peat to knock back after zooming around the cosmos smoking away anybody in his path... and to celebrate particularly special occasions... Ardbeg Supernova

@smokeybarrels : would you happen to know where Auchentoshan gets mentioned in the James Bond canon? That would be a nice tidbit in my Toshan research databank.

@markjedi1 I'm on it- I may have to listen to half the Carte blanche audiobook again but I will get the text for you!

Ian Fleming and so James Bond in the books were Bourbon drinkers.

A blended Scotch I would have thought, Ballantines Finest?

In Live and Let Die Flemming has him up in Harlem drinking quarts of Old Grandad. When I was in the US last year I bought a bottle for that reason alone :)

@markjedi1 Well i guess I answered my own question there! That should shift a few bottles for them :)

The new female M of 007 fame was a bourbon drinker and offered 007 a bourbon in Goldeneye. If he drank scotch I would have to guess it would be a blended scotch available world wide like maybe Ballantines Finest.

@Lars at first I thought you were crazy but then I thought it probably would be a blend . . . considering the time period Bond evolved and all (post WWII ? right?) . . . but what blend would be suave and sophisticated enough for our boy James?

Talisker 18 gets my vote, especially with Connery's accent and diction...it would sound awesome! :)

@Billyboy05055 Not sure but it would have to be available worldwide which is why I figured it would be a blend. Much easier to get worldwide if it was a cocktail like a rusty nail or the trademark martini
