You can also find this bottled as l'Oncle Meyer, it is the same simple blend from the Alsace, a north eastern region of France, on the border with Germany. Oh, well, you are on vacation and… but it is a little whisky in every sense that will still set you back 28 EUR for only 50cl. Let’s hope the taste is okay. The nose is rather closed and needs some handwarmth to open up. It’s all about wood glue at first. Then some cider apples and caramel joing in, but nothing else. It is quite oily, but a little sweet and sour. Reminds me a lot of grain (there is probably quite a bit in the mix), on sweet corn, caramel and apples – stewed this time. Loads of barley sugar and a slight bitterness of the wood. The finish… what finish? Blink and you’ll miss it. I have had worse than this, but it is far from interesting. Perhaps it goes well with that typical local dish, Coq au Riesling?
