Whisky and Dental Hygiene

I have this theory that whisky is a good cleanser for the teeth and gums, but anyone know if my theory has any grounds, or am I just trying to justify my habits?

Note that one should never drink any more than a dram immediately before visiting the dentist.

I don't know but I'll subscribe to that theory!

@LeFrog LOL: whisky toothpaste: hilarious! Thanks for sharing @Scribe As for the theory, I don't buy it. Nice thought, though.

I guess whisky (especially cask strength) kills a lot of bacteria in the mouth, but I don't think the effect lasts long if you don't physically take out all the garbage ;-)

@LeFrog Heheh, nice - wonder why they don't do that any more.

Mrs Scribe did get me some Absinthe toothpicks for Christmas though ;)

As a child, I used to be given a concoction of water, sugar, lemon juice and whiskey, when I had a sore throat. I liked it, and it usually worked! This discussion also prompted me to consider gargling with whisky instead of salt water: realizing that this is really not the proper way to sample whisky, you could, however, use up your harsher and hotter bottles. You could even swallow it for a more complete experience. Bring on that next sore throat !

@AboutChoice That concoction is called a whiskey sour here in the States. Though we don't usually give them to children. D:
