So I just received the information as to what the new best whiskies in the world were and all I could do was laugh. Thomas H Handy Sazerac Rye and William L Weller Wheated Bourbon. Made me so happy as I'd already purchased both whiskies and I didn't have to feel tempted to go purchase the new bad boys on the block. I might have decide to pick up a second bottle of each, but I'd been debating that anyway. The only surprise for me was that the George T Stagg didn't make it onto the list as it seemed like it was a Buffalo Trace year.

Anyone going to be picking up any of the winners?

Got the mail from TWE yesterday and had to grin too. Is this Bourbon only? Now those drams are going to be even more expensive and I wont afford them. All those great Bourbons ;(

@Jimlad2000 I've got the 21 yr Old Pulteney from last year, same as you still unopened. Looking forward to cracking it sometime. I picked up Canadian Club on his recommendation and all I can say is that my bottle was nothing short of FOUL!

@Will It sure seems like the American whiskies kicked some butt this year! The Thomas H Handy is a cask strength rye whisky that is nothing short of stunning. It's like the Stagg, with rye :D The William L Weller is a cask strength wheated bourbon however, also stunning. Honestly when I saw the line up I expected to see the Stagg in 3rd place hahaha.

@SquidgyAsh No, I think not. I went to a tasting a couple of weeks ago where the Buffalo Trace Head Distiller poured White Dog, BT, Eagle Rare, the Antique Collection, and Pappy 20. A wonderful night to be sure, but I learned that I am firmly a Scotch Whisky fan. The only ones that "clicked" for me were the Eagle Rare 10YO, which I can get anywhere, and the GT Stagg. Did not care for the others.

Luckily, I was able to obtain 2 bottles of the 2012 Stagg last night. Whisky Bible winner or not, it was the winner of the Antique Collection for me.

In the US the Jim Murray Whisky Bible winners have been generally sold out for some time, since he must be referring to the 2011 releases. This is a situation where there is advantage to being remote from the main supply stream-- there might be a few bottles available of something generally sold out, especially abroad. Unfortuantely that availability is generally at very steep prices.

Now in the US is the time of the new release. We should be seeing the 2012 release of the Sazerac Antique whiskeys here in Maryland in the next couple of weeks. I am looking to buy now and am on full alert to notice of supply arriving locally. The only question is how much will be available.

About the George T. Stagg, I think that the 2012 release has a better shot at being Whisky Bible Top 3 next year for the 2014 Edition, than did this year's 2011 release.
