@Flokke, You seem to have a good idea of what you like but for a first trip give some consideration to a visit to Speyside. There are at least 50 distilleries in the region, most of which welcome visitors. There are several 'crackerjack distilleries' within sniping distance, Glenmorangie, Benromach, Clynelish to name just a few. Don't forget Aberlour (rhymes with flower), the jewel in the crown!

@Flokke I would recommend going in May next year when the Whisky Festival is on in the heart of Speyside. This centers around Dufftown and is great. I was fortunate to live just outside Dufftown for a few years and it was a dream existence for me being in the middle of all of those mash tuns...Have a look on the net for the exact date..i can recommend places for you to stay and distilleries to go to and will probably see you there if you go..

I would like to go to Scotland in May 2012 to visit distilleries for the first time. What's best to do? I thought about Islay, because I like Lagavulin, Bowmore, Ardberg,... Good or not? Maybe there are other treasure to enjoy?
