On Whiskyblender.com, one can compose his/her own blend from several casks that are discribed as Burnt Puddin’, Soft & Fruity, Touch of Spice and the likes. And while my first blend, aptly named 1st Xperiment, was not the best, my 2nd Xperiment tasted a lot better. Practice makes perfect, I thought, so I ordered a 3rd Xperiment. I used only three kinds of whisky and lo and behold, it is not just Blended Scotch Whisky, but a Blended Malt Scotch Whisky. Thus, all single malts.
The nose is spring fresh and fruity, on lemon, pineapple cubes and gooseberries, with toffee, mint and some almonds. After a few moment, I even get a hint of coffee. Tonic, too. And malt. It is very light and merry. A breakfast whisky, so to speak.
It has a good mouthcoating body and is well spiced. Again, freshly sweet, but with a pinch of salt halfway through. Actually, this is a good continuation of the eager nose. On the palate as well, this is an accessible, merry whisky. It has something of lemon eau-de-vie, with a smoky jacket. And the longer you wait, the peatier it becomes. It is sweet peat. And guimauve, something you don’t get every day (in fact, I only had it in the wonderful Littlemill from The Whiskyman). Very good.
The finish is fairly long and sweet and fades out on smoke.
Now this is a succesful experiment indeed. Three’s a charm, eh? In truth, it reminds me a bit of The Six Isles. A little less peat, but just as sweet. A fine dram.

Nice, sounds like a lovely dram. I'll be watching the review. I'm glad that a very decent whisky can be concocted from the ingredients they allow you to use!
