When I was a reckless youth, I'd buy Wild Turkey because it was cheap. Now I have a new found respect for the label. This stuff is good! It's mild, sweet and has just the right amount of fruitiness. The pear/peach taste mixed with some oak is a great combination.

Anonymous, are you still out there a year later? I don't understand the score of 60 given the otherwise positive comments about WTRB. If nobody else has a point of view to share, I might be forced to buy a bottle and form my own opinion.

@flyfish, Rare Breed is my favorite Wild Turkey, and a favorite bourbon in general, and it is on my review list. It is robust, dry and deeply flavorable ... don't hesitate to pick up a bottle ... maybe a little like Bulleit Bourbon. @Anonymous, whoever you are, I too, do not understand the score of 60.

I have a bottle of this and would put it more towards a score of 86 or 87. I think the mixture of barrel ages used gives it an interesting flavour profile. At first I was not blown away but with time came to appreciate it more and more. It seems to have a strong rye backbone ( I may be wrong) and this I like. @AboutChoice have you tried the 12 year old Wild Turkey?

@boardsy, I didn't know there was a 12-year, and it does not seem available around here ... thanks for the suggestion though. The Kentucky Spirit is quite bold and distinguished, but not happily engaging as the Rare Breed ... and I wouldn't replace the KT Spirit.

@boardsy, oh, yes, all of the Wild Turkey bourbons are strong on the rye.

I've got a bottle of this in my cabinet. It's already halfway and thanks to this thread I realise I haven't written any notes yet. Doh. I'll put it back on the tasting shelf. 60 does seem very low from what I remember, especially given the positive desciption.

@AboutChoice, Maybe the 12 year old is an export product. I have seen it only recently at one online store only(UK). I have not seen anyone stocking the Kentucky Spirit here.
