Nose: It's a little tight, cinnamon, and general non-distinct baking spices. A little bit of wood, too, dry and sweet. Some dark and red fruits (my handwriting is abysmal), a drop of vanilla and maple, but it's very quiet. (with water) A little more on honey, dry wood (sweet), and vanilla baking goods. The alcohol is a little loud, but, on the whole, the nose is bigger and more distinguished.
Palate: Really nice here. Maple, wood, ash, tobacco/pipe juice, brown spices, more wood, and... I seem to just keep sipping it, which probably gives a sense of how it goes. Nice rye spice, and light on the grain quality that you get at lower proof. I like it. (with water) More obviously rye, and a bit less rich (it's still deep). Charcoal and cocoa dust.
Finish/Comment: I think that I prefer this neat (I'm a broken record). It almost reminded me a bit of some Stagg mixed with William Larue Weller, though a bit narrower in the flavor profile. B/B+

Jealous. But then I'm jealous of most who get to sample a Willet family bottling.
