- Brand: William Cadenhead
- ABV: 46%
A blend of one of Scotland's oldest bottlers: Cadenhead. All components of this blend are a) Scottish and b) at least 20 years old and c) sherry matured.
The nose is difficult, which means that I am not immediately sure whether I like it or not. Sweet, that's for sure, with a lot of dark and dried fruit, honey and a hint of coconut, but at the same time something dirty that I can only describe as fermenting grapes.
The body is relatively light. On palate it is already much better. Beautiful sherry notes such as candid orange, dried apricots, baked apples and some chewing tobacco, while the grain component takes the reins and delivers flavors such as coconut, wood glue (no off-note) and corn on the barbecue. Licorice and cloves. The balance is good. From the second sip it is the honey that starts to grab your attention. Good stuff and much better than the nose promised.
The finish is spicy and warm and relatively long with a handful of nuts on the deathbed.
The nose wasn't immediately my thing, but on the palate this blend makes up for a lot. Thanks, Tom.
