The Italian bottler Wilson & Morgan, operational since 1992, has bottled quite a few Islay, including a young 8yo House Malt, which I suspected to be a Bunnahabhain. I am convinced this 21 Year Old is also a Bunna.
Forest scents is the first thing I notice on the nose. Moss, ferns and even some mushrooms. Then some hints of bitter orange peel. A bit sour. On second whiff I get some prunes and a hint of walnuts. Polished leather. Light touch of mint. Soft. Hardly any peat. Becomes sweeter all the time. Bunna, no doubt.
It is a bit oily with a good mouthfeel. Immediately oranges, zest included, and prunes. Only after this pepper and cloves kick in, as well as quite a bit of oak. Licquorice. Fruit confit. Wonderful!
The medium long, sweet finish evolves from leather towards drying oak.
A deserving winner of the silver medal at the Milano Whisky Festival. The nose was good, the palate and finish excellent! Thanks to The Bonding Dram, for the sample.
