Apart from single cask bottlings, the Italian company Wilson & Morgan has also released several so called House Malts. These are from undisclosed distilleries. The newest in that series is this Born on Islay from 2003, just released.
The nose is soft and not very outspoken. Mild peat, sure, and some sweetness. I am thinking sherry cask. It is also a bit sour and farmy. Baby breath! Could this be a young Bunnahabhain? Reminds me a lot of the Bunna 2001 from the Maltman.
It is a bit oily on the palate. A good continuation of the nose without any flavours that jump out at you. Malt and some red fruit. Something of burnt paper (do not ask me how I know how this tastes, trust me, you do not want to know). A little rough on the palate, actually. Granular, if you know what I mean. Not bad at all.
The finish is medium long and pleasantly smoky.
An entry leval malt, that much is clear. It would be more outspoken had it been bottled at a higher ABV. Having said that, this is very affordable. Around 33 EUR for a bottle. Value for money.
