Rumour has it that Wiser's is planning to release a set of whiskies blended by retired NHL stars.

Good thing about the 1/11 rule... Lanny wasn't wearing a mustache net...

Is the 1/11 going to be their blood, sweat & tears? I shouldn't say anything as I am not the target audience for this product, if it tastes good then I'll buy a bottle, that would be my determining factor.

Oh oh, The doc uses the S----- word for the Larry Robinson blend...

@Nozinan I wonder if the Larry Robinson blend will include the word “Hammer”.

For those who aren’t aware, Larry Robinson is an ex-Montreal Canadiens defenseman who wasn’t really a fighter, but once beat the living tar out of Philadelphia Flyers “tough guy” Dave “The Hammer” Schultz.

Take a good look, the blue collar favourite, Wendel Clark, has the darkest whisky of the bunch indicating to me that it contains the highest rye content of all of them. Atta Boy Wendel!! For the benefit of our Connosr friends not familiar with hockey, Clark is a former professional hockey player, a dearly beloved captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the hardest working, toughest moth_ _ fu_ er to ever wear a Maple Leafs uniform (sorry Tim Horton, it's true). Clark was _that guy on the ice, loved by some and hated by the rest. All this and I'm not even a Leafs fan.

Don, did you get Lanny's autograph?...did he get yours!?

@Nozinan, if one guy is allowed to use the word smooth, it is the master blender, and come on, it is Larry Robinson after all, Big Bird...who was smoother than Big Bird?

@paddockjudge Wendel was a guy I hated when my team (Habs) played against the Leafs (or the Nordiques). I would have loved to see him wear La Sainte-Flanelle (a Montréal Canadiens jersey) though.

@OdysseusUnbound, He did a pretty good number on Ted Irvine and Mike Milbury as well. He was never looking to fight but nobody else was looking to fight him either :)

@Astroke Didn’t know about Milbury, but now I love Robinson even more. Milbury is an obnoxious loudmouth. Up until Marc Bergevin took over as GM for my Habs, Milbury was the worst GM in NHL history.

Was just reading about these released on the Wiser's website. As we all know by now, the Clarke whisky is 100% rye aged 11 years. Looks like the MacDonald whisky will be a 9 year old wheat-dominant blend (interesting!), and the Robinson will be 100% corn with rum, bourbon and Speyside casks, 10 years old. Liking the looks of this so far.

@Megawatt, Clark = Lot 40 in bourbon cask (not new oak) and Robinson is both Pike Creek 10 yo. I'm guessing Lanny might be more like a G&W.

@paddockjudge Logical guesses, however you're leaving out a few differences:

WC age statement vs Lot 40 NAS Robinson - inclusion of Speyside casks (Pike Creek 10 used port and rum for finishing)

@Megawatt, no I didn't leave out a few differences, I left out one difference on the Lot 40 CS, the abv. 2017 Lot 40 CS is eleven years old, WC is eleven years old. I was generalizing, not guessing. I assumed you had a better understanding of the whiskies in question, but as you so aptly put it, I was mistaken, you don't. Quit nit picking.

@OdysseusUnbound

@Megawatt He’s got far to go...the Habs will be bad enough to miss the playoffs this year, but not bad enough to get a good draft pick. The dreaded “middle of the pack”.

@paddockjudge I'm familiar with the Northern Border whiskies but I haven't tasted any of the Rare series. Sorry for nitpicking, was only looking to clarify.

@OdysseusUnbound We shall see. If Price can find his game, and Weber can make a triumphant return, we just might make a run for it. In any case I don't think "Win the Cup or finish last" is a good approach to any season, as a fan or a GM. Though it has a certain appeal in theory.

@Megawatt, I relent, I thought you were testing my mettle.

There are similarities between WC and Lot No 40, CS or otherwise.

All "star special Rye" (this is Hiram Walker speak for pot still Rye) comes from the same bond/year. The chief difference being the different Barrels used for aging; all Lot 40 is aged in new oak and WC is aged in exbourbon casks. This year it was aged for eleven years.

Hiram Walker distillery produces Rye only one month of the year. This makes identifying the bond a not so difficult task when the age statement is provided, as in this year's releases of WC and Lot 40 CS. Last Barrels was a bourbon sour mash not aged in new oak. It has some bourbon qualities, but lacks the sweetness and sharp vanilla of bourbon due to the use of experienced cooperage, as does WC. There might also be some column still whisky in the WC, but definitely very little new oak or none at all. I like the WC Rye and find it to punch above its weight, just like its namesake, Wendel Clark.

@Megawatt If “ifs and buts were candies and nuts, we’d all have a Merry Christmas”.

I’m not saying it’s “Cup or crash” but there have been a lot of bad moves on Bergie’s watch. I like Weber, but I still hate losing P.K. Subban. I think there was a divide between PK and Pacioretty and Bergevin sided with Patches. Max was the least dedicated, laziest, most gutless captain in Habs history. I’m glad he’s gone, but I’m sorry it took so long.

@paddockjudge You’re making me want to open my Wendel Clark rye....I was hoping to complete a set, but the Lanny McDonald wasn’t available anywhere when I was in Alberta. disappointed
