For the 15th anniversary of Belgian importer The Nectar, a lot of special bottlings were released and this is one of them, namely a quarter cask from Wolfburn that yielded 168 bottles at cask strength.
Rather closed nose, I must say. Needs a lot of hand warmth to open up. Then I get freshly harvested grain, malt sugars and some farmy notes, if you know what I mean. A cow shed, to be honest. And that's pretty pleasant. Some more apples and vanilla. The young age is obvious, but far from unpleasant.
Great body! Nice and creamy and powerful. Farmy all the way. Herbal too. The fruit, which translates to currants and apples, barely gets a chance to show itself. Quite smoky, too. What a powerhouse. Midpalate it offers some extra vanilla and light, floral honey that gives it a sweet and playful edge.
In the finish it is quite peppery, sweet versus salty and you notice the young age again very well. But it doesn't bother at all. Young Wolfburn is actually quite cheeky, but very tasty.
Firm, young malt that does not disappoint. Count on about 95 EUR (which I don't think is cheap).
