The Kylver Series releases are all named after the so-called Kylver Stone, a tombstone on Gotland from the 5th Century. This 5th expression, bottled in 2019, is a vatting of first fill bourbon and PX sherry casks.

The nose offers primarily white fruit and lemon, but also some oak. Pears, apples, vanilla and cherry pastry come to mind. Fresh and fruit and a bit spicy from the wood. Clearly young, but nae bother. After a few minutes I also get a maritime note. A soft sea breeze, so to speak.

Nicely oily and quite piquant. Good continuation of the nose with apples, (lots of) citrus fruit and cherries, but also quite a bit of pepper, ginger and a tad smoky. On the palate too I get that salty element that gives it some depth.

The finish is pretty long, quite sweet on candied oranges and cherry juice with cinnamon, while the apples turn fried and the spices linger quite long.

Good stuff, especially considering it’s age.
