@SquidgyAsh We went to Whisky Live for a few years, but after a while it getsextremely repetitive. The main problem is that it is almost a 100% Official Bottlings show and after a few years you get tired of seeing the same bottles as in the supermarket (Lagavulin and Talisker being the worst offenders).
This year I went to the Whisky Fair in Limburg Germany and this was a really amazing experience.
1) almost 100% independent bottlers so you really see a wide array of bottles 2) you pay for what you take so the show is not limited to entry level drams; you want to taste some Brora fine, just pay for it 3) you can get/buy samples to bring home and taste at your leisure over the next 12 months (i brought back 24 small 5cl bottles from the fair.

@SquidgyAsh I can't say I've personally been to either, however the stories I've been hearing about both shows seem to mirror Olivier's comments. I'm led to believe that they're both fantastic if you're not one that goes to many tastings/ bars etc. and that there's a great selection of official bottlings available to taste.. but if you're looking for something a bit more special, you might be a little disappointed.
I noticed you didn't mention the Sydney Whisky Fair? This year, these guys are trying to differentiate themselves by bringing in the likes of Adelphi, Gordon & Macphail and SMWS, along with a healthy offering of Japanese and American whiskey. They've said they're trying to pitch their offering more toward the enthusiast by offering them some bottlings that are less common on our shores, which I find pretty exciting! Their tickets are a bit pricier, but they're great, enthusiastic guys and put on some good events, so out of the three Sydney-based shows this year, this is the one I'll be going to.
Hope you don't mind me throwing that idea out there for you.

@Olivier Awesome information there! Thank you! Whisky Live Perth was my very first whisky show so I wasn't sure of what to expect. I do believe I like your idea much more, that sounds like my kind of show!
@Whisk And even more excellent information there! That's a whisky show that didn't even pop up on my radar!! Some very good information there and a show that sounds like heaps of fun! I have to take a look into Sydney Whisky Fair and see about going there next year!
Definitely thanks for that one Jonathan!

Hey folks in Sydney and those who attended the recent World of Whisky show a couple of quick questions for you!
I'm setting up my whisky travel budget for next year and I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I'm trying to decide if it's worth my time to head over to the Sydney's World of Whisky show next year or should I just go to Whisky Live in a couple cities (you other guys always get more whiskies then we get over here!)
Was there a good selection of whiskies? How about bang for buck?! Was it worth it? Can you give me any advice on whether I should just hit Whisky Live or should I splurge a bit and travel to Sydney for WoW?
