My picks:

Best bargain whisky/whiskey; Black & White blended Scotch (So cheap it's insane that it's as good as it is. No, not very complex, but balanced, with no bad notes and a clean finish).

Best daily drinker whisky/whiskey; Isle of Skye 12 year old blended Scotch whisky. (Value priced, well balanced, with just the right amounts of smoke and spice).

Best blended malt Scotch whisky; Sheep Dip (A well priced and well made blend of select single malts, designed by master blender Richard Paterson).

Best sherry finished single malt Scotch whisky; Benromach 10 year old. (Another value priced whisky, but amazingly complex and smooth for a something this young, with just a hint of peat to give it a nice kick).

Best peated single malt Scotch whisky; Ardbeg Uigeadail (Sweet, rich, complex, so peaty and yet so well balanced).

Best cast strength single malt whisky; Aberlour A'Bunadh' (Some batches are better than others, but this is one of the best deals on the market).

Best Irish blended whiskey; Jameson 12 year old Special Reserve (Priced right, well made, pot style blend that is so easy to like).

Best Irish single pot still whiskey: Redbreast 12 year old Cast Strength (One of the most complex and well balanced Irish whiskeys on the market).

Best American whiskey; Buffalo Trace (Well made, bargain priced, and packaged better than most, this is fine for mixing or drinking neat.)

Best Japanese Whisky; Suntory's Hibiki 12 year old blend (An amazing value in a premium package, that is well balanced, reasonably complex, and easy to like).
