What's your ideal cabinet. If you had to choose 10 bottles to fit your guests (whisky likers) and yourself (whisky fanatic)?

In no particular order.

  1. Aberlour A'Bunadh (Batch 49 preferably)
  2. Ardbeg Uigeadail
  3. Octomore
  4. Macallan 18 Sherry
  5. Highland Park 18
  6. Elijah Craig Barrel Proof
  7. Thomas H. Handy
  8. Redbreast 12 CS
  9. Laphroaig Cask Strength
  10. Abraham Bowman CS

As a side note, if I only had room for 10 bottles, I don't care what other people coming to my house want to drink. I'm picking the 10 bottles I want to drink!

@DutchGaelisch

@mscottydunc Hahaha. I know, but that's the tricky part. Give them diet coke, I've heard somewhere..... To give a guest an Octomore or A'Bunadh is dissapounting for you & the guest. That's why I prefer to have some 'easy going' bottles in the cabinet.

@Nozinan Trust me, I went back and looked at the box twice. That number issue does not show when calculating dosages I hope smile

@casualtorture

This is a great question. I'm still not experienced enough to answer as I've only been drinking whisky for about 2 years.

But I would balance it out. 1 Islay, 1 sherry bomb, Arran 14 ( my personal favorite), a rye, a wheat, and then 1 more of each of these but at cask strength.

@DutchGaelisch,

It was not an easy task. After careful consideration, I chose some favourites from my cabinet and have selected what I consider to be a good representation of varying styles to please both whisky-likers and whisky fanatics. I added a bonus bottle, Macallan Cask Strength, it belongs in every cabinet.

  • Alberta Premium 25 YO 100% Rye - Alberta

  • Amrut Single Cask, Cask Strength Single Malt - India

  • Balvenie Tun 1401 Single Malt Batch 9 - Speyside

  • Bruichladdich Octomore Comus 4.2 Single Malt - Islay

Dear @DutchGaelisch , it seems I have a little trouble with counting . I have made a list for the die hards like you and me. By the way, I am in your home town Maastricht tomorrow and I might visit Bams, your local liquor store. My list contains: * Bruichladdich Infinity * Highland Park 25 yo * Highland Park 30 yo * Octomore 2.1 * Ardbeg Supernova * Santis Swiss Malt Edition Dreifaltigkeit * Amrut Portonova * Midleton Very Rare * Thomas H. Handy (2010) * Glenmorangie Signet * William Larue Weller * Ardbeg Airigh Nam Beist

Ofcause there are Talisker 18 and Glenmorangie Sonnalta And my beloved Amrut Intermediate Sherry. But these happen to be very well known around here. Actually I made this list to promote the Santis Swiss Malt Edition Dreifaltigkeit .No, I am not from Switzerland and I do not like mountains at all. It is the greatest Islay Whisky produced on the continent of Europe. No, the best Islay whisky outside the U.K is made somewhere in India, but that is a different discussion. Isn't it ?

@NamBeist I like all the imput I get, a list is a list! These lists always put me on a trail to new bottles I haven't visited yet. Redbreast 12 CS was allready on my list, but it seems I also have to try Millstone 100 rye, Abelour A'bunadh and maybe some Swiss bottle? Enjoy your stay in Maastricht, Bams has a really good Independent bottle collection at affordable prices, Have fun with 'de tuut vaan Bams' :)
