Just of the cuff, Independent Bottler Gordon & MacPhail offers a Glenrothes 1973 40 year old, and Glenfarclas also offers a 1973 (not sure when it was bottled so it might not be 40 years old).
You shouldn't have a problem finding a 40 year old 1973. What might be a concern will be the price you'll have to pay for it.
Availability certainly depends upon where you are in the world. The two above are available in the USA.

I want to buy my husband a vintage 1973 for his 40th birthday this year. Has anyone had experience with any whiskies from this year? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
