This is my 100th set of notes to publish here, and I wanted to do something to make it special. I have a few samples of really special drams, but thought that it was time to do something once in a lifetime, something "special."

Here's a sample from a friend.

Nose: Is that butyric acid? I'm not sure. It's not obvious from the nose, but it's in the room after I poured my dram. Let's dig in! Ok. Let's not. It's definitely malty melted plastic. That's not going away. Corn. Very strong chemical notes. It definitely has the vibe of a bag of trash in the kitchen that's been around for 4-5 days, with a bunch of liquid pressed from things like cheap canned soup, bananas, and the rest of it. And then fermented. There may be a light sherry note. The problem is that once you get the vomit/trash note, your nose can't get anything else. Perhaps a survival mechanism.

Palate: Welp, there it went. Just the tiniest of tastes and I vomited on the carpet. I am at a loss for words. I'm gagging. How do I get this taste out of my mouth? Is this going to kill me?

I knew that this would be bad going into it. I had asked the friend for the sample. You think that you've had some really awful drams, how bad could this thing be?

This is your answer.

Congrats @numen (on surviving), I'm lost for words.. is this the worst single malt ever bottled?

Thanks, everybody! I think that I've managed to survive for now. @systemdown, it's certainly the worst that I've ever had. When we think of a bad dram, we normally think of something rough and poorly made. This is bad on a molecular level. Remember my carpet! There may be things that are worse, but it may also be difficult to determine just how much worse or better things are at this range.

I'm also happy to leave that search to somebody else :)

@Wills, I sort of wish that it were an April fool's joke, but this little joker is as real as they come! Oof! Never again, never again.

This sounds sooooo bad. Was the bottle spoiled in someway (cork rot, baby puked directly into cask, bottle left in direct sunlight for 100 days on Venus, etc.) to create such a horrible liquid? Wow.

@Pudge72 read the link I posted above. Seems to be the standard for this release. Taste differs, I guess someone will like this.

@Pudge72, not as far as I know. By virtually all accounts, this one is a jewel of awfulness.

Wow! That sounds like an absolutely dreadful experience! However, not surprising at all. If there's one thing the Japanese can do almost as well as make great whisky... It's make bad whisky! There are some absolutely horrible bottles produced in this country that is for sure. My own personal choice for worst whisky ever would probably be Suntory Red... Man that stuff is bad x(

@numen, first of all congratulations on your 100th review! I had a good laugh reading your tasting notes on the Usuikyou 25yo. I remember a friend once telling me that he tried one (don't remember the age) in a bar in Japan and the bartender actually asked him whether he was really, really sure if he wanted to have that one. If I recall it correctly, his experience seems to have been similar to yours.

@Wills, not really, but the dram made his hairs stand on end.
