@sengjc: You're right about the regular Kavalans being so-so, but having tried them all, I can say that anything under the Solist label is out of this world, not just the Sherry.
@CanadianNinja: Kavalan is about all we've got going on down here. The other whiskies made in Taiwan fall into the cheap, rough, chemical, might-cause-blindness category. Count yourself lucky; Japan is the place to be if you want a good variety of well made Asian stuff.

Excellent idea! I propose setting up a poll and allowing Connosr members to vote for what they think is the 2013 Dram of the Year.
But first we'll need a shortlist. I'll start a discussion where members can submit ONE contender for the award. Once we have a shortlist of 10 drams we can open up the voting.
May the best dram win!

@hunggar
I am yet to try the other Solist. Another fellow Aussie on this boards loves the Solist Vinho so I may just try to source some of that to see.

For 2014, Jan thru now, it is between Balblair 2002 (thanks Ralfy), Kavalan Solist Ex Bourbon and that single dram of Laphroaig 14 bottled for LMDW I tasted that I can't get out of my mind - maybe a bit of a "the-one-that-got-away effect" going on here because I did not pick it up then and it is now gone) :(
