Elixir Distillers has a series on the market that goes by the name Reserve Casks. In Parcel No. 7 you will find this Lowlander of which it is not revealed which distillery it came from. We do know that it was distilled in 2007 and that it is a vatting of three casks: 2 bourbon barrels & 1 sherry butt. Strangely enough, there is mention of 5.5% Angel's Share on the label. Finally, 'selected by Oliver Chilton' – this good man is the Head Blender at Elixir Distiller.
It is not Auchentoshan (I would probably recognize that), but it is very nice on the nose. A tad waxy and very sweet on cotton candy, pancakes, grapefruit and something mineral like pebbles in the stream. I think this is very beautiful. Light and summery. Ideal in this season.
It's a tad light in body, but good. On the palate I now get Dextro Energy, grapefruit and grape juice, walnuts for a bitter touch and something fresh like menthol. Excellent spiciness of the oak. Think camphor, white pepper and quinine. Becomes gently drying towards the end.
The finish is medium-long, waxy and after an initially very sweet start suddenly shows a very salty touch on the deathbed.
Thank you David! That was very interesting. No idea where it comes from, but could very well be an Ailsa Bay or Daftmill.
